2017 Mosaic Workshops

You Can Do It

Join me in my Santa Rosa studio for one of my day-long (10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.) Mosaic workshops. Participants use the same tools & materials I use to create their own mosaics. They leave with a completed, framed, matted mosaic bearing their signature on the bottom … or on the top … or on every side! It is all up to you, & that is a big part of the fun. We focus on the mosaic style pictured to the right. To see examples of work other workshop participants completed. please see my blog entry from April 27, 2013.

You are also welcome to join me for a complimentary salad bar lunch at noon & to enjoy complimentary snacks, iced tea & filtered water throughout the day.

The cost for the workshop is $135, and it includes everything necessary to make and frame the mosaic in a black 11×14” frame or a 12.5 x 12.5″ square frame (depending on which frames I have in stock – I will let you know when you register). All the tools you need will be available for you to use, & there will be something extra that will be a lot of fun, too.

By popular demand, beginning with my March 2015 workshops,  I will also be selling some of my papers in sizes of 8.5 x 11″ ($3) and half sheets that measure approx. 19″ x 24″ ($8.50).

The workshops will generally follow the following format:

  • 10:00   Arrive and get settled
  • 10:10   Introductions
  • 10:15   Overview of the mosaic process
  • 10:20   Paper selection
  • 10:30   The mosaic process begins!
  • 12:00   Break for lunch
  • 12:45 – 3:45:  continue working on mosaic
  • 4:00     Mosaic complete and ready to finish
  • 4:00 – 5:00:  sealing the mosaic and framing

The timeframe is flexible, and participants/artists may well finish before 5:00. That’s fine – we can move to the finishing steps when you are ready. I wanted to allow enough time so no one would feel rushed.

Upcoming Workshop Dates:

  • JUST ADDED:
  • Saturday, September 23, 2017 (tentative)

Due to complications with credit cards, I do not accept them as payment for workshops, although I do accept them for the purchase of tools, supplies, paper and other items at the workshop itself. I ask folks to mail a check to me, and I will hold your space for a week to allow the check to arrive.

I need at least 5 participants, & can accommodate up to 10. If you have a group of 8 or more, I do offer special pricing. Please call for details.

  1. Where is the location?
Have you ever thought about having a class in Sacramento Area?

    • Hi, Ayako,

The location for the April 27 and (tentative) May 25 workshops is in Santa Rosa, at my studio.

I have considered doing off-site workshops – the challenge is that space is needed for 8 people to be seated at easels with magnifying lamps. I also don’t have enough contacts in the various cities I visit for shows. If you have the space and can find 8 participants, I would be willing to bring the workshop to you and your friends at no additional cost.

      Debbie

  2. I would love to take your class…we are in process of moving to Folsom so how quickly is this April 27th class filling up? Things may just be too crazy to take the class now

    • Hi, Lynda,

I put the first notice out Wednesday and already have 2 people enrolled. I have room for 6 more. I hope it works out for you to attend. It is gonna be fun!

      Debbie

  3. Hello….. I have been doing tile mosaics but your workshop caught my eye. I am looking forward to it.

  4. Had a great time at Debbie’s workshop yesterday! It was so nice to take a finished project home all ready to hang on the wall………very unusual as I rarely am able to finish anything when I take a class. Debbie is such a gracious hostess, making us all feel comfortable and catered to with a lovely lunch and even a cake for the birthday girl. On top of everything, all we had to do was show up. Everything we needed for the days activities was provided. I felt like all I had to do was enjoy participating. That’s exactly what I did, too! Thank you so much.

    • Thanks, Terralyn – I’m glad you had a great time. It was a fun afternoon, and I loved the piece you created.

      All my best,
      Debbie

  5. Dear Debbie,
I am interested in taking one of your workshops and wondered which of the December and January of 2013/14 are still open!
    Thanks so much!
    Nancy

  6. Saw your work for the first time yesterday at the Pomona Harvest Festival. Beautiful!!! Would love to do your workshop. Do you have dates for 2014 yet?

    • Hi, Jo Anne,

Thank you for your comments about my work. I don’t have my 2014 dates yet, though. The best way to keep tabs on that is to sign up for my newsletter. I send one email a month, and I list all my events (including workshops). Another option would be to check the website because I do post them there once I know when they will be.

Thanks so much for being in touch!

      Debbie

  7. I want to take either the April 5th or 19th workshop and am just waiting on two friends who I believe would also enjoy this to see which day they would prefer. One is a definite yes but she doesn’t know the day choices right now and the other I just sent the information to to see if she’d like to join me as I hope she will. Please let me know if either of the days is already too full for three more.
    Thank you, Madaline

  8. Love your work. I would be interested in signing up for a workshop. Looking forward to your newsletter.

  9. My first workshop with you in December- I left speechless with the framed wonderment I had in my hands, created by my own hands. Thank you so much for sharing your talented creations & offering your Artist gifts and knowledge. Your generous heart was just as important as my simple mosaic in changing my perception and supporting hope!
I want to attend the March 27th workshop. Thank you.
    Deirdre

  10. I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful workshop. I just loved it and had such a good time! I am still amazed at what I created and the creativity of the other students. To come home with a finished product that looked so professional still puts me in awe every time I look at it! All the tools and products were first rate down to the beautiful framing job. You had everything so organized and planned out that made the whole process go so smoothly. Even your lunch and snacks were great.

Thanks again for putting on the best workshop I’ve ever been to and for sharing your secrets with us.

    • Thanks, Rita! I’m glad you had a wonderful time. And it is amazing how creative all the participants are and how wonderful their works turn out. I think my favorite moment is when they see it framed and matted for the first time. It’s always magic!

Thanks for coming. I hope to see you again at another one.

  11. Hi Deborah,

I hope you are getting the rest you need! Taking care of ourselves is so important.

I am writing to ask about a June Mosaic workshop. Allegient is offering really good deals on flights and my cousin in Idaho is interested in coming down if you would have a class during the time of the offer. It is June 4 – 15, so it would be that one weekend window.

No worries, just thought I’d throw it out there!

Congrats on finally getting the move done!

    Take good care, Leita

  12. Hi Debbie, hope this finds you well and happy. When you have your next mosaic workshop Linda, Annie and I would like to go. Can’t wait to see the final touches on your new place. Enjoy your time there. Talk to you soon. Take care, say Hi to Eric for me. Rachelle
