The 24″x30″ Washi Paper Mosaic “Monumental Change” is one of the first large pieces I completed. The Washi Paper Mosaic itself measures 18″ x 24″, and matted with the frame, it measures 24″ x 30″.
I had already created the first 14″ x 18″ “Change” framed piece, and when I took the first finished “Change” piece in in its entirety, I realized that the gold buttons looked like coins, or the change one might have in one’s pocket.
Given its size, completing this piece represented a monumental accomplishment. Coincidentally, I was undergoing some monumental changes in my own life at the same time. “Change” seemed to be the order of the day, and it became the style for most of these pieces. Putting the two together, I came up with the name “Monumental Change” for this piece, and named others in this style with similar names.
Was Life imitating art or vice versa?
